Name: Deimos
Nickname: Dei
Human Name: Dean Mose (ooh, creative); Deadly Dei
Domain: Deimos is the god of Terror, Dread, Cowardice, and basically shitting yourself in the face of adversity.
History:
Deimos is the progeny of Aphrodite and Ares. He and his twin, Phobos, represent a less... cherubic version of the pair's offspring. One might even say they take after their Da. Deimos is the god of Terror, Dread, Cowardice, and Battlefield Rout. If any of the following are occurring in your immediate vicinity, odds are Deimos is afoot. He has little patience for most of his siblings, but love his mummy and is fiercely protective of the one cool sister, Harmonia.
When the One God basically screwed up everything for everyone, Dei and ‘Bos hit the earth determined to make the best of it. For a time, they followed their father around, enjoying the ensuing battles that justified violence in the name of “He who kicked them out off the Mount.” But eventually, the twins grew bored and moved Eastward to oversee An Lushan and the An Shi Rebellion for a decade or so, which gave them amble time to contribute to the 36 million death toll. From there, the pair skirted from one small country’s skirmish to another, taking a bit of a break until they happened upon the fledgling Mongol conquests. Deimos enjoyed a good century engrossed in warmongering and strategical advisement for the Mongol World Empire before Kublai Khan began to resort to peaceful methods. The twins then abandoned the wavering empire for greener pastures, including the Manchu Conquest, Japan’s invasion of Korea, and the Thirty Years War. By the time the 20th century hit, Deimos and Phobos had become well versed in several forms of elaborate torture that deviated even from their Grecian upbringing.
Ahh, but then it was the 20th century, and a whole new way of killing people was introduced. World War I was just a taste of the fun that could be had, and when Deimos met a war hero from Germany named Adolf, he felt his first real affection for a simpleminded, mortal being. Nurturing the young man’s aspirations of a truly pure race, Dei took delight in the rise to power that lead to World War II. What fond memories he and Phobos have of touring Nazi-Germany during the time of the racial cleansing. Even today, the echo of such concentrated terror clings to the sites of the camps. When America interfered, Dei became separated from his twin. It would be the last time he saw him for a very, very long time.
After the WW2 tired itself out, Deimos (like much of his family) migrated to America and discovered that human beings could do a lot worse than just commit war upon one another. This self-indulgent, self-consuming society became the God’s focus from that moment on, as if punishing Americans could repay them for ruining his fun in Germany and stealing his sibling away from him. The industrial revolution partially stole his thunder, what with its indifferent methods of killing, but Deimos had plenty to occupy himself with on home soil. The stock market crash, for example, was tons of fun. And thus his interest in Finances began.
Nowadays, Dei lives in Las Vegas, where he started the easy and pleasurable work of a bookee to particularly addicted gamblers, and eventually used his earnings and power to become a local crimelord for the city. His daylight hours are spent drinking expensive bourbon in underground bondage clubs, nights spent breaking kneecaps and subverting other organizations. And of course there is the odd stint over to NYC to act as financial counsel for a collections service to conglomerate corporations. And whew, you should smell the stink of fear coming off eight Armani suits in a 34th floor boardroom. Nothing like it.
Deimos also will make trips to locations across the globe that he senses are particularly volatile hotbeds of violent activity. This is both a matter of business and pleasure. Dei was present for significant events beyond the wars he witnessed. His passport book includes stamps from such tropical locations as: Hiroshima, Palestine, Berlin, The World Trade Center, blah blah blah. The boy likes scary situations, you get the picture.
So, yes. Deimos is truly living the dream. That is, except for that one minor detail he can’t forget….. He is without his Phobos.
The lack of his other half has left a large, vital hole inside the Deimos, one he cannot seem to fill. He tries not to get too mopey, preferring to express his emotions on the unsuspecting flesh of some mortal, but the sheer wrongness of living alone has got him visiting family members more often than not. He's also shacking up with Kakia, which is working out beautifully because really? Peas in a pod, those two.
His life is fairly simple, and fulfilling as long as he doesn’t think about his twin too much. every so often, he’ll go visit Da in L.A. but he’s not too fond of the movie business and its overly fake violence. It’s possible he thinks Ares is a sell-out.
